IASTM is a technique utilized to more aggressively and systematically break up excessive scar tissue formation that can cause tendinosis, sprains, strains, and can inhibits proper tissue healing. IASTM is used with stretching and strengthening to aid in the proper laying down of collagen fibers in order to strengthen and heal the tissue. Kinesiology Taping is the use of a stretchy often colored or designed taping that provides proprioceptive training, posturing, or neuromuscular reeducation for the purpose of improving body mechanics. There are many varieties of taping, including Kinesio Tape, KT Tape, Rock Tape, and others. The theory is that if you improve movement patterns and reinforce them with the assistance of taping, you can not only reduce pain but improved efficiency of movement. Also, by applying sensory input to the skin you potentially reduce pain input and improved confidence. Kinesiology has also been shown to improve circulation.
